What is the Adventure Playground?
Luton’s first flagship Adventure Playground (APG) is situated in the Hart Hill area of the town and was first opened in early 2011. Adventure Playgrounds provide children with stimulating, exciting and challenging environments to play in, both after school and during holiday periods, whilst supervised by qualified staff.
The APG operated by Children’s Links, a children’s charity, is the first of its kind in Luton. It caters for children aged 6-15years and is staffed by qualified play workers who have completed CRB police checks and first aid training. Children are supervised whilst on site and participating in our opportunities.
The APG is a free of charge, open access facility. Children are able to come and go as they please at any time during our opening hours.
The APG provides an atmosphere where children can play regardless of race, gender, religion, cultural background, physical and mental ability. The APG has facilities for children with special needs and disabilities.
Play workers provide a variety of materials and equipment to enhance children’s play and support them in creating play opportunities to meet their needs. Children have the choice to participate in the opportunities provided. Play workers empower children to contribute to the planning and development of new opportunities, helping to create a positive environment.
The APG provides opportunities both indoor and outdoor, this includes wooden play structures, nets, swings, bridges, aerial runway, arts and crafts, sand and water.
The APG is registered under the Children Act 1989, the new legislation under the Children Act 2004 and is inspected by Ofsted. It adheres to the Every Child Matters agenda and safeguarding legislation.
Important information and what you can expect
The APG building and outdoor environment are regularly checked for major hazards and maintenance issues. Play workers are approachable, courteous, fair and helpful. All parents/carers of children attending the APG will be asked to complete a registration form, providing details to be used in an emergency. This allows your child to use the APG at any point during the opening times.
Play workers are happy to discuss any issues you feel are affecting your child during their time at the APG. APG’s are messy so children need to be dressed appropriately. Any personal items brought in to the APG are done so at your child’s own risk; play workers and Luton Borough Council will not be held
responsible for any loss, theft or damage to such items. Please ensure children have locks if arriving by bicycle; however we do encourage children to walk to the APG.
It is the parent/carers responsibility to keep play workers informed of any changes to the emergency contact information we hold. Every child and visitor who attends will be required to sign in on arrival, and departure. This is for Health and Safety reasons, and inline with our Admissions and Arrivals and Departures Policy. You may be asked to provide proof of age, such as birth certificate for your child. All information will be kept confidential and secure in line with our Confidentiality Policy.
Under 6’s and their families are very welcome but must be supervised at all times by an accompanying adult, who is responsible for them whilst on site.
Drinks and snacks can be bought from the tuck shop, but children are welcome to bring a snack of their own.
Play workers and Luton Borough Council will not tolerate bad behaviour from anyone visiting the APG. Users who behave inappropriately will be asked to leave, and official action may be taken. This is inline with our Behaviour Management Policy.
Sometimes we take photos and videos at the APG. Children’s Links and Luton Borough Council use these images to evaluate the project and for leaflets, presentations and other marketing material. We also provide opportunities where children can take digital photos and videos of sessions. NO NAMES ARE EVER DISPLAYED WITH IMAGES.
