The Creative Play Project  provided free access play opportunities for children and
young people in rural South Kesteven where there is little or no free access to play provision and communities are socially isolated. 

The 3 year project delivered after school sessions and play days, creating magical, memorable, temporary play environments in spaces in the heart of communities. These include streets, green spaces, natural environments such as woodlands and community
buildings.

These play environments  exist for just one day and are developed  and shaped by the materials brought onto site many of which are simple and cheap but have great play value such as poles, stick’s, string, rope, cardboard, wood and fabrics.  

The play days offer the community a place to come together to meet, socialise and play together and to build intergenerational relationships.

‘I was blown away when I visited on Saturday at the brilliant creativity, imagination and care that had clearly been put into the week and was evident in the 60 plus dens and little hideaways that the children had created.  I happen to think that this has been one of the best play experiences that I have seen in nearly 30 years in the game!’
