Xtreme was developed as part of the West Lindsey playranger project.  Although the playranger project is aimed at children and young people aged 5-15 years, many young people aged 10 plus are put off by the word "play" and stay away from the project because of this.

The playrangers visited groups of young people at youth clubs, performing arts groups and in areas they congregate and carried out consultation work to find out what they could do to include this age group.

The young people decided they would like a day of extreme activities; which they would not normally be able to access.  It was decided to hold the event on National Play Day to emphasise the need for young people to be included in the day.

Each year prior to the event young people are consulted with, their ideas form the programme of activities.

Xtreme has been a fantastic success with over 140 young people plus adult volunteers attending in 2009.  Activities included zorbing, climbing wall, bucking broncho, bungee run, street dancing, outdoor cooking, skate park and parkour. 

The event will return for its 3rd year in 2010 merging with Lincolnshire County Councils LinXs Festival to reach a wider range of children and young people aged 0-19 years from the whole of Lincolnshire.
