Children's Links have been delivering activities in schools and communities for over 10 years. We give children, young people and communities the opportunity to learn new skills, develop self confidence and communicate better with others by providing bespoke sessions tailored to suit.
Details of some of the specific projects we have run in schools can be found by clicking the links below. All of these projects are still available and can be mixed and matched to suit.
Arts play
Better play at lunchtimes
Communities at play
Creative play days
Inset training workshops
Themed play days
Traditional playground games
Creative play days
Safari days, pets in school, spies, construction and building, forest, woodland and outdoor play have been
some of the themes Children's Links have worked on with schools to develop exciting and memorable play days.
A range of activities are offered within these themes that develop children's creative skills and encourage
them to work togther in mixed age groups and to become independant learners.
The benefits of this work as reported by teachers are that children are more co operative, better creative
thinkers and when given the chance to follow their own inclination learning is more absorbing and sustainable
for them.
‘The atmosphere in the whole school community (including parents and visitors), indoors and outdoors
was electric. Total engagement in all the activities. Thank you for inviting me’.
Inset training twilight or full day workshops
If we are to encourage a play based approach to learning in school, teachers must understand the benefits
of play and the play principles in practise in the classroom.
This course encourages teachers to develop imaginative ways of working with children to inspire their
creativity and ability to develop their own creative skills and learning through play. Using a series of
objects as the starting point for exploration teachers first explore their own creativity and then look at
how to apply their ideas to learning in school.
Work plans and ideas discussed on the training days are reflected on and lead to the development and
delivery of an arts play day in school.
Themed play days
Children's Links have worked with schools to deliver full play days replacing all normal lessons on those days. Sessions can be delivered to year groups or the whole school to suit. Themes have included messy play, environmental play, risky and challenging play and imaginary play.
The sessions provide children with chance to experience new play opportunities and to support cultural differences, language barriers etc. Teaching staff involved in such days have commented on how the activities encourage language development and social skills.
