FOR THOSE NEW TO THE CHILDREN'S WORKFORCE

All days run from 9.15am – 4.15pm with lunch and refreshments provided free of charge.

What is it?
The CWDC induction training is an induction training programme for those who are new to the children’s workforce. It has been designed by the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC) and is delivered and recognised nationally.  The Director of Children’s Services has stated that he wants this training to replace either in full or in part current induction programmes within the Lincolnshire children’s workforce.  The training has been adapted to meet the needs of those who are new to the Lincolnshire children’s workforce.
The training is four days in duration & all days must be attended in order to receive certification from the CWDC. The training is set at level 3/ 4.
The Lincolnshire model of this training is recognised as an example of effective practice nationally.

What content does the training include?

Module 1 - Principles, values and legislation
Theme 1 - Working in a principled way
Theme 2 - Promoting equality and diversity

Module 2 - Understanding children and young people’s development
Theme 1 – Human need, learning and development
Theme 2 – Attachments, boundary management and child development
Theme 3 – Understanding behaviour
Theme 4 – Understanding contexts

Module 3 - Building relationships and communicating with Children, Young people and their Families
Theme 1 - Building helping relationships and communicating effectively with children, young people and families
Theme 2 – A structures approach to work with children, young people and their families; and supervision
Theme 3 – Transition

Module 4 - Keeping Children and Young People Safe from Harm
Theme 1 – Safeguarding and protecting
Theme 2 – Health and safety

Module 5 - Integrated working
Theme 1 – The processes and tools of integrated working
Theme 2 – Working with others as part of integrated working


The training is based on a national programme, designed to meet the CWDC induction standards and is common core compatible. It has also been specifically adapted to meet the needs of Lincolnshire employees, with specialists delivering training on integrated working arrangements based upon the Lincolnshire model.

Organisations would be expected to provide additional induction training specific to the needs of their organisation and employees if required.

What are the benefits of attending the training?

Participants will gain a basic knowledge and understanding of the elements of the CWDC induction standards for those who work within the children's workforce.

Participants will also have the opportunity to gain a knowledge and awareness of other organisations and individuals within the children's workforce who will also be attending the course - building an excellent foundation for integrated working.

Diploma in Home-Based Childcare Unit 2

Children's Care, Learning & Development–NVQ Level 2

Prepare and maintain environments to meet children's needs, support children's play and learning. Portfolio development and assessment in the workplace.

First Aid for those Caring for Children
This course is divided into two units, the First Unit is dealing with first aid emergencies for babies and children, in this unit you will be taught how to cope with life threatening situations and shown how to use life saving procedures such as CPR, choking and bleeding management for a child and baby. You will also learn how to protect yourself from dangerous risks at a first aid emergency scene.The Second Unit deals with being able to respond appropriately to babies and children's injuries, life threatening illnesses and medical conditions. It will identify how to comfort an ill or injured baby/child You will learn how to respond to different types of children's injuries for example, burns and scalds Head , neck and spinal injuries fractures and dislocation foreign bodies in eyes, ears and noses eye injuries poisoning bites and stings

Certificate in Counselling Concepts, Level 2
Course Code CA41 The course introduces students to general counselling concepts and in particular, to person centred counselling philosophy and practice. It looks at the nature of counselling relationships and how counselling differs from other helping roles. Awareness of the effects of prejudice and discrimination is addressed in all elements of the course. The course is mainly experiential and involves learning and practicising basic counselling skills. Course members are required to participate actively in exercises as both 'helper' and 'client' to develop counselling skills. The basic thinking behind the Person Centred approach is also addressed. This includes ideas of personal change and responsibility. There are 3 units on the course which will be assessed. A minimum of 80% attendance is required. One assignment will be externally marked by an ABC examiner. This level of course is an introduction to counselling but successful completion does not mean that students will be competent in the use

Introduction to Childcare Practice (home Based)
There are eight subject elements to ICP, these are:-- Establishing a safe and healthy childcare environment in a home-based setting- Establishing routines for home-based childcare- Providing play and other activities for children in a home-based setting- Introducing children and their families to your childcare service- Managing children's behaviour in the home-based setting- Inclusion and anti-bias practice- Child protection in the home-based setting- Starting a home-based childcare serviceIncluded within the course are details of how to get support through Calderdale Family Services or the National Childminding Association (NCMA). How to progress to further training or personal and professional development, including Quality Assurance schemes.Learning is continually assessed through a variety of informal methods, both during sessions and as homework. Formal assessment is by a multiple-choice test, set by CACHE.

Childcare Practice in Home Setting Level 3

CACHE Introducing Childcare Practice
Subject areas include: an introduction to starting a childminding business; managing behaviour; settling children in; relationships with parents; keeping children safe; establishing routines, and providing play and activities. Progression is to the CACHE Developing Childminding Practice programme. Learning takes place in a friendly and relaxed environment. Your lecturer or the guidance team are there to help you get the most from your course. If you want to study on your own you can use one of the 3 Learning Resource Centres, or one of the special study workshops in Care, English, Mathematics, Languages and Information Technology. Learners are also encouraged to access the Care Workshop, where they can access books, professional journals and other learning materials including video and IT based materials. CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Play work
This Certificate is an ideal starting qualification for anyone working with school aged children in a variety of settings including play scheme workers, out of school workers, sports centre staff,and lunchtime play supervisors. Completion will require attendance of 70 hours in a suitable play work setting. Assessment is based on completion of two assignments on play work practice.Exam/registration fee of £55 included.
