Happy Faces All Round at Scunthorpe Play Scheme

During school holidays 27 children, all with complex needs, attended a Play Scheme run by Children Links on behalf of North Lincolnshire Council. A true partnership providing high standards, quality services and bringing smiles to children and young people.

The Play Scheme is held at St Luke’s School in Scunthorpe, where children were cared for and entertained by a total of 30 members of staff.

Everyone enjoyed activities such as messy sensory play (...anything they could get their hands into and could also cover themselves with. From shaving foam to jelly!); music sessions; sand and water play; constructing with cardboard boxes of varying shapes and sizes; spa sessions (manicures, nail painting, hair styling) as well as stories and songs. Each afternoon everyone got together for singing, dancing or joining in the karaoke; both the fire and police services came to visit with flashing lights, sirens and water hoses on display. While for something slightly more relaxing there was the garden to wander round or sit in; the sensory room for fibre-optic lights, calm music and soothing mobiles or bean bags and floor mats for chilling relaxing on.

In their own words...

‘I just want to say a massive thank you to all you lovely ladies child A has loved every day’

‘Thank you for the play scheme. It gave us some valuable family time to spend with my other children. This is a very helpful service and the staff are friendly and caring’.

‘I only have basic knowledge of the play scheme, as my little grandson attends it. However, I can say that we all (including his mum and dad) appreciate the facility and the obvious dedication of the staff who work there. Child B really enjoys the play scheme and we are grateful this facility exists - please keep up the good work.’

‘As ever it was a godsend, giving me breathing space and Child C entertainment. Well done everyone. Though I only got the last of his nail polish off this morning before school ‘
