We aim to make a positive difference to children who are often excluded or forgotten.

It is estimated that around 200,000 children in England and Wales have a parent in prison. Having a family member in prison is difficult for anyone and particularly children.

Research has shown that children with a parent in prison are:

  • Twice as likely to have behaviour problems
  • Twice as likely to have mental health problems
  • Twice as likely to struggle at school
  • Three times as likely to be involved in offending

Strong positive family relationships improve outcomes for the children and reduce the likelihood of reoffending by prisoners. Our work in prisons helps develop and maintain these positive relationships by making the visits calmer and more relaxed.
