From Play Scheme Participant to Published Author: Celebrating Jack Marshall's New Book

We are delighted to celebrate the publication of a new book by former Play Scheme participant and staff member, Jack Marshall.

The Boy Who Can Not Smile will be released on 19th June 2026 and tells Jack's powerful true story of resilience, family, identity and finding his voice.

Many of us at Children’s Links remember Jack from his time attending our inclusive Play Scheme, where he later returned as a member of the team. His journey is one of determination, growth and perseverance, and we are incredibly proud to see him achieve this milestone.

In his memoir, Jack shares his experiences of adapting to life-changing circumstances and navigating the challenges that followed. Told with honesty, warmth and humour, the book explores what it means to move forward when life takes an unexpected direction.

As Jack explains:

"This is not just a story about struggle. It is a story about adapting, finding purpose and not letting your disability define you."

Through personal reflections and contributions from those closest to him, Jack offers an inspiring account of resilience, connection and finding meaning through life's challenges.

Jack's story is a wonderful reminder of the strength, potential and achievements of the children and young people we have the privilege to support.

We would like to congratulate Jack on the publication of The Boy Who Can Not Smile and wish him every success with the book launch.
